The Rainforest Science - Materials Geography 1 Amazon Rainforest- understand geographical similarities and differences through looking closely at the physical geography of a small area of the United Kingdom, and of the Amazon rainforest in Brazil. 2 The location of Rainforests- use world maps, atlases and globes to identify the United Kingdom and its countries, as well as the countries, continents studied in this topic. 3 Weather- Explore and identify seasonal and daily weather patterns in the United Kingdom and the location of hot and cold areas of the world in relation to the Equator and the North and South Poles. The Rainforest Science - Materials 1 Identify and name a variety of common and unusual animals including fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. We will look to explore animals that are carnivores, herbivores and omnivores. We will look closely at their structure and compare. 2 Observe changes across in weather in our own environment and look carefully at the weather/climate in Brazil. Observe and describe weather associated with the seasons and how day length varies. English –Through non-fiction, fiction and poetry Poetry - We will identify and recount times they have experienced different emotions. They represent emotions in colour and describe them through simile. They develop their ability to write by composing statements and rhyming couplets. We will explore subordination, questions and question marks and punctuating sentences. There will be a spelling and grammar focus throughout the unit, focusing on verbs, nouns, suffixes, adjectives and the prefix un. 1 Use some clearly identifiable letters to communicate meaning, representing some sounds correctly and in sequence [Wr] 2 Write own name and other things such as labels and captions [Wr] 3 Attempt to write short sentences in meaningful contexts [Wr] 4 Understand the role of the question mark in punctuation, and form question marks correctly in their own work. 5 Continue a rhyming string [R] Segment the sounds in simple words and blend them together and know which letters represent some of them [R] 6 Understand what a prefix is and what this does to the root word. 7 Spelling & phonics Grapheme and phoneme correspondances covering phases 3, 4 and 5. In addition to, children will learn to spell the Year 1 common Exception words. 8 Reading – Children will learn to use their phonic knowledge to decode, focus on comprehension and inference… Music 1 Exploring how instruments can be used to accompany songs. Looking closely at rhythm and beat. Art and Design 1 Exploring the artist, Henri Rousseau 1844 – 1910. Use a range of materials creatively to design and make a rainforest piece of art. Maths 1 Place value within 50 2 Addition / Subtraction RE 1 Why are some Stories Special? The Bible and Easter. We will look at Judaism and the Simchat Torah. PE 1 Master basic movements including running, jumping, throwing and catching, as well as developing balance, agility and co-ordination, and begin to apply these in a range of activities through the program of Real PE. Forest School - we will explore taking safe risks, with regular opportunities to achieve and develop confidence and self- esteem through hands-on learning experiences in a natural environment. PSHE/British Values 1 Keep personal details private, consider who you are talking to online and make sure a trusted adult knows what you are doing online. Computing 1 Describing Toys activity to add text (a list of descriptive words) to an image by selecting from a word bank. Use a tablet to record an image; upload it to a computer and add labels. To use technology to create and present ideas and be creative with different technology tools.
