Activities since the last SCG in March 2009 WG C meeting held in Prague on 28th April 2009 Main topics: WG C-3 activity Threshold values – inventory Land use and Groundwater WG C mandate 2010 – 2012 Science and policy oriented research: Climate Change, CIS – Science Policy Interface (SPI) and research areas; GENESIS, RISKBASE WG C-3 activity meeting held on 27th April Further progress with WG C-3 activity (conceptual model and risk assessment)

Activity WG C-3 Integrated Risk Assessment and Management Principles This guidance will not address questions during the current RBMP period… but is intended to support the second cycle… based on the lessons learned by the MS on implementing the WFD,… as well as on recent scientific findings and concepts.

Activity WG C-3 Integrated Risk Assessment and Management 2 Topics Conceptual Model of GW-bodies and Risk assessment First draft for conceptual model development available Outline for risk assessment presented and discussed Goal: to elaborate final draft by the end of 2009 Risk management - shall be addressed and worked on by 2010.

Threshold values (TV) inventory Methodology / Relationship of TVs to env. objectives DW most important TVs based on DW standards (TV=DWS, TV=75%DWS (2)) In case of dependent ecosystems: Ecotox standards (EQS surface waters) In case of saline intrusion: BL Most stringent (EQS, DWS) was considered But also mineral waters, cleanup values,… Attenuation and dilution factors applied / not applied  Information provided by 22 MS, 2 will provide later, no reply from 3 MS summary presentation of TVs at the WG C meeting in Prague (available on CIRCA) Proposal by EC: upload of reported TV on restricted area of CIRCA – comments until 15th May 2009

Land use and groundwater: presentation of the SSG WFD & agriculture (guidance on diffuse pressures from agriculture) in Prague conclusion: under the next mandate a technical report should be elaborated based on best practice – considering the outcome of the SSG
