Presentation transcript:

Improving Our Worship By Giving our Best We worship God because He deserves and desires it, and we need to show our love for Him. The Lord does not accept our worship if we refuse to give him our best, so it is important that we come prepared to worship, whole heartedly participate, and limit distractions. By Giving our Best

Why Worship? God deserves it (Psalm 29:2) God desires it (John 4:23-24) In truth (Leviticus 10:1-3; 2 Chron. 26:16-21) From the heart (Deuteronomy 10:12; Exodus 25:2; Psalm 86:12) We need it (Hebrews 10:24-25)

Unacceptable Worship Worship that is neither from the heart nor according to truth (Isaiah 29:13; Matthew 15:8-9) Worship that is offered by the unrighteous and the worldly (Amos 8:4-7) Worship that is not our best effort (Malachi 1:6-14)

How Can I Give My Best in Worship? Come Prepared To Worship! Get a good night’s rest -- Eutychus probably wished he had! (Acts 20:9) Bring your Bible (Acts 17:11) Be ready to listen (Acts 10:33) Clear your mind of worldly concerns Practice self-discipline (1 Cor. 9:27)

How Can I Give My Best in Worship? Participate! By giving cheerfully and liberally (2 Cor. 9:7) By taking the Lord’s supper in a worthy manner (1 Corinthians 11:29). By Singing with melody in your heart to the Lord (Ephesians 5:19) By examining Scripture (Acts 17:11) By praying together (1 Cor. 14:16; Acts 12:5) By striving to edify others (1 Corinthians 14:26)

How Can I Give My Best in Worship? Limit distractions Do your part to enable everything to be done “decently and in order” (1 Cor. 14:40) “Order” is translated from “taxis”, meaning “regular arrangement, that is, (in time) fixed succession…official dignity: order.” (Strong’s Dictionary)
