Reception Class Autumn 2018 AUTUMN TERM SECOND HALF CURRICULUM Mathematics We will be matching numerals to quantities and saying the number that is 1 more or 1 less than a number. We will be using number lines. We will be finding the total of two groups of objects. We will be using the language heavier and lighter and comparing the length and size of objects. Communication, Language and Literacy We continue to learn our letters and sounds and how to blend them together to make words. We will be reading a range of stories and acting them out with props. We will be focussing on forming our letters correctly. Understanding the World Our topic this term is Parties and Celebrations. We will talk about different celebrations such as Christmas, birthdays, weddings and christenings and other celebrations from around the world. We will take part in some celebrations of our own. ICT We will be learning how to use a number of programmes on the classroom computers and iPads. We will also be visiting the computer suite as a class. Physical Development We will continue to practise our fine and gross motor skills through a range of activities including painting, threading, cutting, balancing, throwing, tracing, running, climbing and riding bikes and scooters. We will be using the large climbing apparatus in PE lessons. Expressive Arts & Design We will be using our imagination to act out celebrations and role play scenarios. We will continue to explore a variety of techniques and materials to produce paintings, collages and models. We will be making decorations and cards for Christmas. Jigsaw The topic this half term is Celebrating Differences. We are talking about our different family and friends, our homes and celebrating the things we are good at. Personal Social and Emotional Development We will be developing our confidence and social skills in a variety of situations, enabling us to work in harmony as a class. We will also be taking part in our nativity. Home Activities Please practise the letters in your child’s book bag (in the plastic bag).
