Bible Reading this Evening: Matthew 13:47-50

So that we may learn...

The Dragnet

Matthew 13:47-50 47"Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a dragnet that was cast into the sea and gathered some of every kind, 48 which, when it was full, they drew to shore; and they sat down and gathered the good into vessels, but threw the bad away. 49 So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come forth, separate the wicked from among the just, 50 and cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth."

A parable that talks about the seriousness of The Judgment of God!

The kingdom of heaven is like: Let's see some details... The kingdom of heaven is like: Who is the Kingdom of heaven? The church...

What is the use for the NET? The Dragnet What is the use for the NET? The Gospel For fishing... John 21:6-8

Who do the fish represent? In this case it is people that are in the church

Something curious in this Parable... When the fishermen pull the net up, they begin to separate the good fish from the bad fish. Bad Good Are there good ones? Are there bad ones? Matthew 13:41 2 Timothy 2:20-21

Whether man likes it or not... God has prepared a Judgment! It's this Judgment that the Parable is referring to

There will be a SEPARATION! The Judgment of God is coming! Matthew 13:49 Matthew 13:39-40 There will be a SEPARATION! Nobody will escape from this!!

Reject God today, and you will pay tomorrow… Who are the AGENTS that God will use? Matthew 13:41 They will execute the judgment of God!

Brothers... There will be a separation... The bad will not reside with the good... Bad Good Matthew 13:41 Matthew 13:50 Remember the rich man and Lazarus?

Jesus taught us the destiny of the wicked ones... 1. The evil ones will be JUDGED Matthew 11:20-24 Matthew 12:41-42 John 5:28-30 2. The wicked ones will be separated from God! Matthew 7:21-23 Matthew 25:41-46

GEHENNA “Ge-Hinnom” 3. Jesus teaches that the evil one will go to HELL Mt 10:28 “Ge-Hinnom” Mt 18:8-9 4. Jesus explains that the wicked will suffer torment Matthew 13:42,50 The fire or Gehenna Revelation 20:12-15; 21:8 The lake of fire… Mark 9:43-48 The fire that will never be quenched

As Jesus went about “preaching the gospel of the kingdom” He did not hold back... He called upon the people to repent - cf. Mt 4:17 He warned them of the impending judgment and torment to come If we are to proclaim the “gospel of the kingdom” faithfully... a. We must not only preach the “good news” of the kingdom... b. We must also tell the “bad news” Christ revealed through His parables and other teachings!

The net has been thrown... Are we good or bad...
