The DECA Chapter officer positions reflect a strategic leadership structure that will allow officers to effectively lead and manage our chapter. Strategy is essential to any successful enterprise and entrepreneurial leader. How people, ideas, and resources come together to achieve results for stakeholders is the key job of the DECA leadership team. Understanding the core elements of a successful DECA Chapter Strategy is the first step toward realizing the full potential of the chapter. The first step of strategy is understanding and believing in the importance of the DECA Mission. As emerging leaders, DECA encourages chapters to practice real-world leadership by adopting a structure that mirrors business and industry. DECA officer positions are aligned with the DECA mission to ensure that each aspect of the mission is represented with great leadership. Every DECA Officer will be responsible for Parliamentarian Responsibilities. These responsibilities are the following: Upholds the DECA mission statement at all times Follows all DECA (local, state, & national) rules and regulations Ensures and maintains good standings with every organization within our school and with local businesses, and works productively and positively with administration members Confirms that all flyers, posters, etc. are approved by DECA advisors, the officer team, and by the appropriate school officials Participates in DECA Fundraisers and Leads by Example for other DECA Members Volunteers to create flyers, posters, etc for various DECA events Volunteers to pass out agendas at DECA events and meetings Volunteers to take on the responsibility to organize food for DECA events Volunteers for Various DECA events throughout the year and runs all the logistics for the event that they are responsible for

Officer Position Requirements & Major Responsibilities President This officer must be a senior and practice the “entrepreneurial” and “management” elements of DECA’s Mission Statement. The President is responsible for connecting with all officers at our school, the district, in the state, and even on a national level. The President must establish and maintain the chapter’s vision for the year, manage and organize the officer team and the entire chapter, and ensure each officer has the training, support, accountability and resources to deliver a powerful DECA experience for each DECA member. The President must also work with the advisors and communicate on a daily basis about various project and activities that the officer team is working on. The President works with the advisors on making the agendas for the officer meetings, as well as, works with the officer team to make the agendas for the general meetings. The President is also responsible for every officer upholding their own responsibilities of the team and is also responsible for assisting any of the officers with their tasks. The President is also responsible for leading the officer elections and assisting the advisors with the application logistics/process. The President will also be the lead officer on all the National DECA Campaigns. It will be the President’s responsibility to coordinate with the advisors and the officers on the National DECA Campaigns: Membership, Promotion, Community Service, Advocacy, and Global Entrepreneurship Week. DECA Advisors have discretion to elect more than one of this officer position. Vice President of Membership This officer can be in any grade. The Vice President of Membership will practice the “hospitality” element of the DECA mission. This person is responsible for connecting members to a welcome, value-filled and fun educational experience. This person will be the lead officer for putting the membership spreadsheet together for the advisors and for keeping the membership binder organized. This person must have the proper spreadsheet from National DECA and work with the advisors on inputting the data correctly and properly. This officer will also work on putting together the membership materials and maintaining a high level of membership involvement. The Vice President of Membership is also charged with creating fun, meaningful, and interactive activities to be implemented during general meetings throughout the year. This officer is also responsible for working with the President on the National Membership Campaign. DECA Advisors have discretion to elect more than one of this officer position. Vice President of Finance This officer can be in any grade. The Vice President of Finance will practice the “finance” element of the DECA Mission. This officer will be responsible for chapter budgets, accounting, and fund development efforts. This officer should know how to use excel spreadsheets (or be willing to learn) and must be financially driven. This officer is responsible for assisting the advisors with collecting dues, counting money, and making deposits. This officer is also responsible for assisting advisors with planning and implementing fundraisers for our chapter. This officer is also in charge of assisting project directors with financials. The Vice President of Finance will also be responsible for working with the President on the National Advocacy Campaign. DECA Advisors have discretion to elect more than one of this officer position. Reporter This officer can be in any grade. The Reporter will practice the “social” element and professional networking foundation of the DECA Mission. The Reporter will be responsible for all our chapter’s social media efforts. This Reporter must know how to use Remind, Twitter, Instagram, You Tube, and Facebook. This officer should be driven by social media and will be challenged to use social media for our chapter in the most effective and professional manner. The Reporter will also be a vital leader on implementing our chapter’s brand and all our promotions. The Reporter will work with the Historian and the Secretary on the Annual Report as well. The Reporter will also be responsible for working with the President on the National Promotion Campaign. DECA Advisors have discretion to elect more than one of this officer position. Historian This officer can be in any grade. The Historian will practice the “marketing” element of the DECA Mission. This officer will be in responsible for taking photos, documenting the events of our chapter, and sustain our chapter’s brand and promotions. The Historian will work with the Reporter on sending photos to the Reporter to be shared on social media. The Historian’s main responsibility will be to work on the Annual Report throughout the entire school year (starting in the June before). This officer must be able to use Microsoft Word and be willing to learn how to format documents into proper DECA formatting. The annual report is usually due at the end of January. It’s imperative that the Historian keep proper documents and update the Annual Report file throughout the year. DECA Advisors have discretion to elect more than one of this officer position.

Officer Position Requirements & Major Responsibilities Secretary This officer can be in any grade The Secretary will also practice the “marketing” element of the DECA Mission. This officer will be responsible for communicating with the officer team, the advisors, and the entire DECA chapter about events and activities that our chapter has going on. The Secretary will take notes at the officer meetings and will share out all the notes to the officers within 24 hours of the meeting. The Secretary will also share our general membership notes from the officer and general meetings after the meetings have taken place. This share out can be through email or another form of social media. The Secretary will be a vital leader on sustaining effective and professional communication with everyone in our chapter. The Secretary will also work with the Historian and Reporter on the Annual Report. The Secretary will also be responsible for working with the President on the Community Service National DECA Campaign. DECA Advisors have discretion to elect more than one of this officer position. Director of Competitive Events This officer can be in any grade. This officer will practice the “careers” element of the DECA Mission. The Director of Competitive Events will be responsible for chapter participation, competition prep, performance in Competitive Events, and will be the Lead DECA Mentor for our chapter. This officer will be responsible for working the advisors on organizing a “Competition Corner” for all our competition resources. Our chapter has sample role plays, sample written events, and sample tests. This officer will be in charge of organizing this and helping the advisors get competition prep materials ready for competitors throughout the year. This officer will be the Lead DECA Mentor and will be responsible for having a meaningful mentorship with mentors and mentees for DLC. This officer will also help the advisors set up practice sessions for written events and role plays throughout the year and during SLC and ICDC. This officer will also serve has a connection between the officer team and the Chapter Project Directors. DECA Advisors have discretion to elect more than one of this officer position. The Jungle Hut Manager This officer must be a senior and enrolled in Advanced Marketing. This officer must know, uphold, and honor the Jungle Hut Mission and the BENGAL Customer Service Philosophy. This officer will work with the Vice President of Finance on budgets for the chapter. This officer will work with the Advanced Marketing teacher and all the advisors on running and managing our school store. This officer is responsible for advanced marketing students sign up for shifts in the Jungle Hut throughout the entire year and will help the advisors in making sure everyone is participating in the Jungle Hut responsibilities within the Advanced Marketing classes. This officer is the lead officer on writing the SBE report/paper for National DECA. This report is usually due in December, and it’s imperative that this officer know how to use Microsoft Word and take the initiative on setting up, managing, and controlling all the aspects of the Jungle Hut. This officer will work with the Assistant Jungle Hut Manager and the Manager in Training to ensure every student working in the school store has an exceptional experience for themselves, as a student, but also for our customers. Assistant Jungle Hut Manager This officer must be a senior and enrolled in Advanced Marketing. This officer must know, uphold, and honor the Jungle Hut Mission and the BENGAL Customer Service Philosophy. This officer will work with the Jungle Hut Manager on analyzing buying trends and inventory control. This officer will also be the lead officer for all Jungle Hut marketing and communications to be done through Social Media. This officer must be driven by Social Media and will be challenged to establishing our Jungle Hut brand on various social media platforms. Jungle Hut Manger in Training This officer can be in any grade. This officer must know, uphold, and honor the Jungle Hut Mission and the BENGAL Customer Service Philosophy. This officer will work with the Jungle Hut Manager and Assistant Manager to assist with the analyzing of customer buying behavior and assisting with inventory control. This officer will be the lead officer for all Jungle Hut marketing and communication to be done through Print Media. This officer must be driven by Marketing Communications and will be challenged to establishing our Jungle Hut brand through various print mediums throughout our school and community.
