State Approved Charter, Utah State Standards, and Financially Sound 2018-19 Focus State Approved Charter State Chartered School – Public School Funds received from USBE Comply with all state regulations and standards Academics Finances – Audit, Procedures, etc. Child Safety Rules and Regulations Financially Sound Maintain S&P Rating Enrollment Solid Foundation Compliance with: State Approved Charter, Utah State Standards, and Financially Sound

Grade level content taught to everyone Individualize Instruction 2018-19 Focus Grade level content taught to everyone Remediation or Enrichment Small groups for reading and math Current Reading Groups Groups across 1st – 3rd or 4th – 6th Taught by teachers or instructors (14 groups with some in SpEd as well) Current Math Groups Groups based on grade level (3 groups per grade level with some in SpEd) Scholar may move up to the next grade once mastery of grade level content is shown. Teachers are breaking groups into smaller groups. Instructors and aides assisting in classes, working with individuals, small groups, or entire class. Technology used to adjust learning Lessons taught by teachers, computers used as tools to assess and practice Teachers adjust learning based on needs of scholars and class State standards used as the basis for instruction

Science Technology Engineering - Arts Math 2018-19 Focus STEAM – Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, & Math Science Science room Hands on science learning weekly Tons of supplies available for learning Technology Available in all classes Chromebooks, iPads, Smartboards, doc cams, projectors, mics Engineering - Problem Solving Culminating Activities 4 school wide activities per year Math, Science, Technology, Writing, and Arts coming together Arts Art and music rooms Currently our scholars are receiving 20 – 24 minutes per week of art and music. Rotating makes these class times much shorter. Veterans Day Assembly, Evening of the Arts, Sing Around the Tree, Math Critical Thinkers Eureka is getting us on this path (Alpine is moving to Eureka in fall of 2019)

Love of words and learning Classical Education 2018-19 Focus Classical Education = Basic Building Blocks English Language Arts Reading – learning to read and a love of literature Spelling – learning rules of spelling Grammar – understanding of English language mechanics Writing – present thoughts and feelings through word Math Facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, percentages, etc.) Understanding of mathematical concepts History Patriotism Love of country and state

Scholar achievement Mastery based grading Academic Content Mastery of 2018-19 Focus Scholar achievement Based on grade level standards Tracked with multiple measurements Mastery Connect first priority Baseline grade level assessments for ELA, Writing, and Math for all grades. Rob currently working on these. DIBELS Three times a year with progress monitoring for those not at or above benchmark. SAGE Mastery based grading Tracked by teachers Scholars and parents know what they have learned and what they still need to learn. Move to a standards based report card?
