A Century of Crisis Reign of Emperor Marcus Aurelius ended Pax Romana Rome begins to decline Rome’s Economy Weakens- Several Factors Hostile tribes disrupted trade Lacked new sources of gold and silver Minting additional coins led to drop in value of coins (Inflation) Food shortages and spread of disease Military and Political Turmoil Roman soldiers become less discipline and loyal Gave no allegiance to Rome Conditions caused citizens to lose patriotism 2
