Test answers: How did the factory system with interchangeable parts change factory production? The factory system was a system which housed people and machines together under one roof. Interchangeable parts made repairs easier because parts were the same so down time was less. All parts were the same so assembling products was efficient and allowed the employment of less skilled workers. This saved money because they weren’t paid as much. The factory system with interchangeable parts made factory production faster, easier, and more efficient.

Test answers: Did technology play a role in the change? Yes/No Yes, technology played a role because cleaning and picking cotton was easier for the slaves and increased production by the use of a machine. Yes, technology played a role. The cotton gin allowed slaves to clean cotton at a faster rate. Instead of picking out seeds by hand and only producing one pound of cleaned cotton a day, slaves could now produce 50 pounds of cotton a day. This increased profit for slave owners because they could plant more cotton. This increased slavery because they needed more slaves to plant more cotton.
