Book Cover Design Contest 5.NF.7a

Lesson Launch Create a real-life scenario in which the expression 24 ÷ 6 can be used to describe the situation. You may write, draw a picture or use physical objects to represent your scenario. What does the quotient mean in the context of your problem?

Book Cover Design Contest! Bigster & Lilster publishing company is coming out with new textbooks for the following school year. They will be providing new books in the area of Math, Science, Social Studies, English and Health. They are holding a contest for students to design a portion of the front cover. Each discipline has a different amount of cover space for this design. In addition, on the inside front cover, there will be a Design Dillemma problem related to your design for other students to solve. (Answer key will be located on the inside back cover).

Contest Rules Design must be partitioned into the given amount. Justify how you determined this amount using graph paper, a number line or another appropriate visualization. Design must relate to the subject. Medium for design can be done electronically or free-hand. Design Dilemma question must be related to the specific subject guidelines and include an answer key.

Science The science textbook has allotted of its space for the student design. Your design must be divided into 5 parts.

Social Studies The social studies textbook has allotted of its space for the student design. Your design must be divided into 3 parts.

Math The math textbook has allotted of its space for the student design. Your design must be divided into 5 parts.
