Multiple Power Flow Solutions in WECC Cases—Sina Baghsorkhi Part two presentation, first was presented last November. The work is not final yet; more testing is needed before making a final recommendation. Is the solution to power flow unique? Can we make distinctions between or characterize these solutions? When solution corresponds to the true operating point of the system? Purpose: looking for multi solutions to facilitate Load Serving capability under the most severe conditions Western Electricity Coordinating Council
MVWG Update - Update Song Wang, PacifiCorp Load Composite Model – Model structure is implemented, tested and benchmarked and is in the WECC base case Renewable Energy Modeling Model is implemented, tested and benchmarked in four software platforms Composite Load Model + DER_A Model Testing and Benchmarking is underway Western Electricity Coordinating Council
Western Electricity Coordinating Council Modeling Overview Generation Energy System modeling Overview The renewable energy generator – converter models The renewable energy electrical –control models The renewable energy plant – controller models The mechanical and aero-dynamic models associated with wind turbine generators Mechanical and Auxiliary Models Shared Priority list of 2019 scheduled work Western Electricity Coordinating Council
Western Electricity Coordinating Council SCMWG Update Amos Ang SCMWG reviewed action items from past meetings Round trip conversion of ASPEN-CAPE-ASPEN by Salt River Project The comparison between cases shows significant errors for single line-to-ground faults The conversion between ASPEN still shows problems SCMWG also discussed the future of the work group Considering building WECC-level cases with all networked system included, regardless of voltage level Presented on the Network Sequence Data Common format approach Western Electricity Coordinating Council
PMWG Update Yi Zhang, CAISO PMWG Activities in 2018 Implemented hydro modeling enhancement Reviewed key PCM data structures and functions Work Plan for 2019 Continue to review PCM data structure and modeling needs Production Cost Simulation Engine, Hydro Model, Energy Storage Model, Market Models, etc. PCM Modeling Handbook Western Electricity Coordinating Council
Enhanced Modeling of Demand Resources (DR) in PCM Andy Satchwell, LBNL Two types of DR modeling assumptions are needed: DR Resource Quantities: how much DR is available to be dispatched in any given hour for each load Zone? DR dispatch mechanics: when is the DR dispatched and how does it affect hourly loads and peak demand? DR resource quantities are based on non-firm load forecasts reported by Balancing Authorities to WECC. The goal is: to realistically model DR resources within the constraints of WECC’s production cost model. ito ultimately model DR endogenous to the PCM model. Western Electricity Coordinating Council
SCIT Presentation Yi Zhang & H. McIntosh SCIT stands for Southern California Imports The nomogram was created after 2-significal blackouts on the Western Interconnect in the early 1980. MS has an Action Item covering Nomograms in general, looking for its enhanced modeling in PCM. Concluded at the StS meeting on Monday was for StS to work jointly with SDWG on develop a recommendation for what should be modeled. Western Electricity Coordinating Council
