1st Amendment 1791 Freedom of Speech, Press, Assembly, Petition and Religion.

2nd Amendment 1791 Right to Bear Arms

3rd Amendment 1791 Cannot be forced to Quarter troops

4th Amendment 1791 Search and Seizure only when there is reasonable cause.

5th Amendment 1791 Rights of the Accused Cannot be tried twice for a crime. Cannot be forced to testify against yourself.

6th Amendment 1791 Right to a Speedy and Fair Trial. Right to call witnesses Right to have an attorney. Informed of charges against you.

7th Amendment 1791 Civil Suits People vs. People

8th Amendment 1791 Bail and Punishment must not be excessive or unfair.

Death Penalty Crimes (Murders) During a kidnapping or hostage taking. Using a firearm during a drug trafficking crime. Related to smuggling of illegal immigrants. 9th Amendment 1791 Powers Reserved to the People Powers not delegated to the Constitution shall not be denied to the people. Prevents any one from taking away the constitutional right of an another individual

10th Amendment 1791 Powers reserved to the states. Powers not delegated in Constitution can fall to the states. The states have every right not given to the federal gov’t. Ex: health care, marriage, divorce, education

13th Amendment 1865 Slavery Banned.

15th Amendment 1870 Right to Vote African American Males.

17th Amendment 1913 Direct Elections of Senators

19th Amendment 1920 Women get the right to vote.

26th Amendment 1971 18 year olds get the right to vote. Ratified in 6 months
