Quick Info February 20-22, 2019 (Wednesday – Friday) Prescott Pines Camp  The students will travel on charter buses, leaving and returning from Basha.   Departure at approximately 8:30am on Wednesday, February 20 Students will need to arrive at school at the regular school start time.   Return to school around 2:30 on Friday, February 22nd. COST - $175 per student

Goals for Kids We have several goals for the students attending Science Camp.  Students will: Develop perceptions, sensitivities, and awareness of their natural environment Build a basic understanding of ecological principles and the relationship between each student and the natural world Work together and appreciate their own individual talent by creating positive social interaction among peers. Develop new, and deeper, friendships with other 6th graders. Have fun!

What we've done at camp Owl Pellets – dissecting pellets to learn about the food web and classify fossils Ice Cream Making – learning about the chemistry behind the transfer of heat and movement, plus we eat the result of our experiment! Archery – students will get a physics lesson in action, utilizing velocity and speed to aim at targets and evaluate their results Star Party – students will learn aspects of astronomy with direct observations Zipline – analyzing the impact and biology of fear on your body as well as physics of movement. Nature Hike – hiking up to the top of the mountain searching and stopping for local plant and animal life  Forensic Science – students will attempt to solve a crime using evidence analysis and reasoning Challenge Course – teambuilding, communication, and compromise Hayride - Guided tour through the forest identifying flora and fauna Campfire  – singing camp songs, hearing stories and making s’mores make true a camp experience that both kids and adults love 4

Groups and Expectations Your child will be assigned to a room with 4-5 other students and one chaperone. They will be placed with at least 1 friend in their cabin that he/she has chosen. Your child will be with his/her chaperone on ALL activities and down time.  Boys and girls are in separate cabins and will not be allowed to enter any cabin which is not their own. Shower time will be allowed in the morning and the evenings before bedtime.   We will eat 3 full meals each day and snacks will be provided in in the evening. Your child should not bring any food.

What are we paying for? The $175 covers: Transportation Lodging Food Activities for the 3 days and 2 nights at Prescott Pines. Memories to last a lifetime! 

How do I pay? At the bookstore Send student with a check Online through Infinite Campus MUST SELECT inTouch Fee Payments Detailed instructions online $175 due by November 30, 2018

Chaperones You will be responsible for In order to be a chaperone you must: Be fingerprinted & background checked  Be a parent of a 6th grader Pay $100 fee (which cannot be by tax credit) Chaperones sleep in the cabins with the campers.  Moms of daughters, dads of sons. You will be responsible for Following the schedule, getting your group to activities on time Possibly helping camp staff run activities Keeping track of workbooks Having fun with the kids!

What about students who don’t go to camp? Students will earn a grade for the work that they do at Science Camp.  Students who stay behind will be responsible for completing work as provided by teachers. No all 6th grade classes will be held while we are at camp.

Additional Information Intent  Form – due back September 7 Chaperones will be selected and notified by this Friday Fingerprinting will be set up soon afterwards if needed Packets will be sent home after winter break to be filled out with medical information and packing instructions.
