Sport Science (Performance Analysis Plan) Rochdale AFC Academy Sport Science (Performance Analysis Plan) 2018/19

Departmental Plan Elite performance support services departmental plan which incorporates principle areas such as; physiology, physiotherapy, soft tissue therapy, psychology, diet and nutrition, strength and conditioning and performance analysis.

Performance Analysis Focus/Targets Youth team analysis to be in line with the 1st team analysis in terms of analysis (see below) Improve the analysis within the academy – Majority of home games filmed with goals from each game being clipped and uploaded to PMA – Individual players/coaching specifics related to club philosophy to be clipped at the request of coaches Monitor and develop the academy interns through regular contact time with the lead analyst both at the club and at academy games. Produce a video library of footage from all age groups highlighting club philosophy and non-negotiables to be used as a learning tool for players and coaches Produce/Film/Clip coaches’ sessions and provide statistical feedback as well as video evidence Outcomes of the above  Point 1 – Keeping in line with the 1st team analysis, it shows a specific correlation to the clubs philosophy and what they are after as well as monitoring all of the individuals stats for when asked by first team staff.  Point 2 – By improving the consistency of the clips and the turnaround of the clips within the academy it will improve the productivity within the department as mentioned in point 1. The report within these age groups will differ from week to week, this is to be discussed with all phase leads and analyst in a meeting to highlight what needs to be looked at and what the analysts have time to do with other commitments such as work and or University studies.  Point 3 – The outcome of monitoring and developing the interns is to develop them as individuals and their experience within the discipline along with developing the academy analysis across all age groups. Regular contact time with the lead analyst will help interns become efficient in their analysis and thus help the analysis within the academy  Point 4 – Players and staff may be visual learners and so will find it easier to see aspects of the club philosophy i.e. playing through the thirds/missing units in the form of videos from game sitiuations rather than in training or by being told face to face Point 5 – Staff can use their own feedback to develop as coaches within the academy. With the assistance of the Head of Coaching, filmed sessions will be analysed and statistical feedback will be given to the coach at the earliest opportunity What’s needed to achieve all of the above?   MacBook Pro, Sony Handycam X3, 4K Sony Handycam, Blackmagic box, thunderbolt cable, IPad, HDMI to HDMI mini cable, projector, projector screen. What I need 2 X Sony Handycam 2 X Tripods Interns will need access to a camera and tripod from their university in order to film every home game External hard drive Rain covers HDMI and VGA cables with MAC adaptors

Performance Analysis Staffing Model 1st team Academy Callum Jones (1st Team Analyst & Head Analyst) Chris Johnson (Lead Academy Analyst) Christian Hulme (U16s/15s) Oliver Rubio (U14s/13s) TBC (U12s/11s) TBC (U10s/9s)

Performance Analysis Match analysis of all U18s games (Home & Away)   (U16s/U15s)– Every home game is filmed as a priority (U14s/U13s)– Home games dependent on intern availability (U12s/U11s) – Home games dependent on intern availability (U10s-U9s) – Home games dependent on intern availability Interns look after the filming of 2 age groups within the academy (See previous slide) and will film their respective age groups’ home game each week. If there are limited/no interns available on a Sunday, the oldest age group will be filmed by the Lead Analyst, and the U16s/15s game will definitely be filmed each weekend. Youth Team Analysis – Opposition analysis in the form of pre-match videos; Post-match analysis to give feedback on a Monday afternoon and the content will be discussed between coaches and lead analyst; post-match statistics in line with specific targets for the game e.g. Penalty Box Entries Within the academy, the interns are asked to clip their own games and will be offered the chance to come to the club to use the SportsCode software or will be required to complete in notation format and emailed to the lead analyst highlighting areas related to club philosophy e.g. Playing out, missing units, end product.

The equipment used within the PDP set up on a match day is a MacBook Pro, 4k Sony handycam, blackmagic box. This allows for the analyst to live code and provide visual feedback straightaway if required. Within the academy (YDP/FP), the interns use Sony handycams to film the games. They then upload the footage onto a laptop where they code/clip the game and upload it. ALL clips are now uploaded on to PMA and are made available to the relevant players and staff. Full games will be uploaded along with goals, Youth Team highlights individual player clips. Each game will be made available to the players and staff of the appropriate age group as well as players in the age group below (those playing up), and coaches/phase leads in the higher age groups to be able to see the progress of players and can therefore decide which to play up: U18s – Goals/highlights made available to everyone at the club to watch. Full game available to players and U18s staff. U15s/16s – Available to players and staff in the PDP. U14s available to 14s and 13s players & 14s upwards staff members. U13s available to 13s and 12s players & 13s upwards staff members etc.   As PMA storage reaches capacity, the oldest footage will be deleted – Where possible, individual clips will stay on and full games will be removed. All of the footage, including clips, is saved onto an external hard drive as a record which is kept by the Lead Analyst.

Performance analysis of training activity Within the PDP its is required that all training sessions are filmed for which a Sony handycam is used. The footage is then uploaded onto the MacBook Pro where it is clipped if asked by any of the coaching staff or shown on the screen in the office if giving visual feedback to players or in some circumstances used for coach development. All training footage is uploaded to PMA immediately after the session and made available to the players and relevant staff members. This footage is once again stored on the external hard drive.

Feedback process/learning moments based on performance analysis.   Within the PDP set up, there are 2 analysis session per week Pre and post match. Post match analysis: this is a visual feedback in which the players watch clips back from the game as a collective, which is led by the phase lead and analyst. This covers topics which have been worked on throughout the week and specifics from the game and philosophy based clips. The main focus of this presentation will be discussed after a game between the coaches and lead analyst, put together using iMovie and presented to the players where they will be asked to provide their own thoughts. Pre match analysis: this is led by the Phase Lead and Analyst. It is a 5-10 minute video of the opposition which highlights shape, attacking and defensive play and set-pieces in which the players are encouraged to highlight anything of the opposition after the video. Players are welcome to stay behind and request to see any extra footage they require Within the academy YDP and FP all of the analyst interns will code/clip the footage from the Sunday games on whatever software is available, either Gamebreaker or LongoMatch. This includes usual match clips and individual clips at the older age groups. All clips are uploaded to PMA no later than Tuesday.
