Adding and Subtracting Fraction word problem

Example 1:- Sanju covered 1/5 kms by walk and 4/7 kms by bus. What is the total distance covered by Sanju? Solution:- Distance covered by walk = Distance covered by bus = Total distance = + Ans: Total distance covered by Sanju = By taking LCM

Example 2:- A milk can contains 3/ 4 litres of milk. 2/3 litres of milk leaked from the can. How much milk is left in the can? Solution:- Total litres of milk = Amount of milk leaked = Remaining milk left in the can = - Ans: Remaining milk left in the can By taking LCM

For Proper fraction there is not need to converted to mixed fraction Example 3:- Saravanan’s father bought 2¾m, 2½m and 1¼m. Find the total length of the cloth bought by him? Solution:- Total length of the cloth Step1:- First, we add whole number part of mixed number = 2 + 2 + 1 = 5m Step2:- Add the fraction part of mixed number Taking common denominator as 4 3 is an improper fraction 2 Convert it into mixed number For Proper fraction there is not need to converted to mixed fraction

Step3 : Add the whole number and the mixed fraction we got from Step 1 and Step 2 Ans: - The total length of the cloth bought by him is

The quantity of milk left over Example 4:- One day Anita's mother bought 5½ liters of milk. She used only 3¼ liters of milk to prepare payasam. How much is left?5½-3¼. Solution:- In the above situation, find the quantity of milk left over. So, subtract 3¼ from 5½. The quantity of milk left over Here, note that 5 > 3 and ½ > ¼. The whole numbers 5 and 3 and the fractional numbers ½ and ¼ can be subtracted separately. Since the equivalent of fraction of ½ is

Try These A juice can contains 2/3 litres of juice. Harini frank ½ litres. How much juice is left in the can? Rajini covered 1 ¼ kms by walk, 2/3 kms by car and 5 ¾ kms by bus. What is the total distance covered?
