WHAT ARE ELEMENTS? Elements are the pure substances that cannot be broken down into any simpler form. Elements have symbols to help identify them. Each element has atoms that consist of a specific number of protons, neutrons, and electrons. An element is identified by the number of protons contained in each of its atoms. The number of protons in an atom of an element is its atomic number.

WHAT ARE ELEMENTS?

WHAT ARE ELEMENTS? Atoms of the same element can have different number of neutrons. When atoms of the same element have different number of neutrons, they are called isotopes. The mass number of an atom is the sum of the number of protons and neutrons in an atom. The average atomic mass of an element is the average mass of the element’s isotopes.

WHAT IS THE PERIODIC TABLE? The periodic table is a chart of elements arranged into rows and columns according to their physical and chemical property. Elements are divided into metals, nonmetals, and metalloids. Each box of the periodic table shows information about the different elements. You will find: The element’s name Chemical symbol Atomic number Average atomic mass The state of matter at room temperature

WHAT IS THE PERIODIC TABLE?

WHAT ARE METALS AND NONMETALS? Metals are easily shaped (Malleable) They are mostly solid at room temperature and require high temperatures to melt. They are mostly shiny (Luster) and make up 75% of the periodic table. They are mostly good conductors of heat and electricity Nonmetals are found to the right of the periodic table. They are gases at room temperature. They are not shiny They crumble easily. Nonmetals are insulators because they resist the flow of heat and electricity.

What are metalloids? metalloid is any element which has properties in between those of  metals and  nonmetals, or that has a mixture of them. Metalloids usually look like metals but behave largely like nonmetals.  They are solid at room temperature; some are considered semi-conductors; some are shiny but brittle.

MAKE PRODUCT PRESENTATION Each group will present the product created to make sure that you have understanding how the periodic table is arrange. Our focus are elements and their properties. Topics can show families or periods of the periodic table.
