Is there an identified change in land use that will increase truck traffic? Conditions of the bridge? Does the bridge show any signs of distress? ABCD March, 2019

Rehabilitations – LRFD Specs Rehab project - BDM gives guidance on minimum structural capacity. Minimum structural capacity different than HL93 should be included in scope or identified very early in project development. ABCD March, 2019

Emergency Vehicles ABCD March, 2019

Emergency Vehicles FAST Act established these vehicles and made them legal to be used on the Interstates and within reasonable access of the Interstates Fast Act – States can NOT require special permits for EV’s to operate on Interstate or reasonable access to Interstates. ABCD March, 2019

Emergency Vehicles ORC states that fire trucks responding to an emergency have no weight restrictions. ODOT Chief Legal Office – fire trucks responding to an emergency are not in violation of the ORC if driven over a load posted bridge. ABCD March, 2019

Emergency Vehicles FAST Act made the EV’s legal on the Interstate System and on the routes within reasonable access to the interstate. BDM Section 905 - EV2 and EV3 are now designated legal loads ABCD March, 2019

Load Rating Emergency Vehicles FHWA Memo dated November 2016 – States must load rate bridges for EV’s. If a State allows emergency vehicles to operate w/o restriction (Ohio), load rate entire inventory. Post Bridge if rating factor is below 1.0 ABCD March, 2019

Load Rating Emergency Vehicles ODOT – 604 bridges 254 bridges - in house 350 bridges - 3 consultant contracts in place Counties – 246 bridges ODOT paying for 50% for consultant work 148 can use ODOT spread sheets C. Municipalities – 43 bridges ODOT currently has 4 consultants under contract for Muni Inspection program which includes this work. D. Ohio Turnpike – 32 bridges done by Consultant OTC inspection program includes this work. ABCD March, 2019

Load Rating Emergency Vehicles December 30, 2022 Deadline: May ODOT Programmatic OSE will select 4 consultants to perform approximately 1820 ODOT bridge load ratings. To fully comply with FHWA mandate, ODOT will invest approximately $7 million. ABCD March, 2019

Load Rating Emergency Vehicles ODOT is updating all of the load rating files to BrR. BrR files are necessary as ODOT is updating permit system which requires BrR input files. ABCD March, 2019
