The first report, 11-05-0645-04 (September 2005) provided an overview of TIA. Second report 11-05-1162-01 (November 2005) concentrates on wireless broadband applications for Public Safety. September 2005 doc.: IEEE 802.11-05/0645r4 January 2006 Broadband Task Group A Broadband Task Group (BBTG) was created in October 2005 to integrate the needs of Public Safety (PS) users for wireless broadband applications considered by TR8.8. The BBTG currently reviews the suitable protocols to be used in an incident scene network (a.k.a. Incident Area Network – IAN). A wide area PS network, a.k.a. Jurisdiction Area Network – JAN, is also considered. The US 4.9GHz Broadband PS band is only 50MHz wide and hence a 5MHz (1/4 clock) channel bandwidth is deemed an important modification to the current 802.11j. Simulation of PS use cases are used to evaluate the protocols and the features needed for public safety applications. TIA has published a Telecommunications Systems Bulletin (TSB-1065) in December 2005 defining the framework for interoperable Public Safety broadband data communications standards.
