Time Management Unit 4 Lesson 3

Define Time Management In your own words – what is time management?

Time management “Time management” is planning how to divide your time between specific activities. How well do you manage your time each day? What are some benefits of time management?

Tips for managing your time

Take care of yourself Eat Exercise relax You cannot work for long periods or at high levels if your tired or hungry

Prioritize Organize tasks by order of importance Reviewing for a test that is coming up in 3 days Or Making up a small missed assignment that is two weeks old?

Balance your approach Work on portions of assignments / projects over a period off time Most papers/projects/tests are given in advance Test studying Projects Papers Avoid cramming!!!

Work in intervals Make yourself work 15 or 20 minutes straight without any break. This helps you get into a groove You may find that you work longer without knowing it!

Take breaks After a sustained work effort 5 minute / 10 minute break (set a timer!) Walk around Get a snack Check social media

Keep lists Keep track of your progress Check items off as you complete them

Reorganize your lists As you complete tasks each day, create a new list Prioritize what’s important

Make time for fun Be sure you do things you enjoy Talking to friends Texting Hanging out Playing games Reading Your brain and body need these breaks

Rest You need 7 to 9 hours of sleep a day This relaxes your brain so you can continue to work well and think clearly

Not Time Management; Self Management!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NcL4wEbvuts Follow along the video and do the time math as he does. How much time does it leave you at the end of the week / day? Do you have enough time dedicated to school? What changes do you need to make? Create a self-management plan for your remaining hours of the day

Time management sheet Organize your day by 30 minutes at a time Plan What you would like to do 6:00 wake up & shower 6:30 wake family / feed pets / eat 7:00 go to work 7:30 check email prep day Monitor – take a day and see how well you stick to your plan!
