Engineers model solar panels after photosynthetic organisms to absorb sunlight and convert it into electrical power. Hydroelectric power is created when moving water is diverted through turbines, causing the turbines to rotate and produce electricity. Geothermal energy is when hot water from beneath the Earth is pumped through pipes to heat buildings, produce electricity, and provide recreational opportunities.
