Scientific Notation on a Scientific or Graphing CALCULATOR On scientific calculators, you can enter numbers in scientific notation by using a function labeled “ee” or “EE.” Usually, the letter “E” takes the place of “x10.” So, the number would appear as 4.1E9 on the calculator. On a graphing calculator, you can use the carrot key, ^, which means “to the,” meaning “to the power of ...”. So, the number would be typed in as on the calculator, but it shows up as 5.9E16.
