Ancient Egypt Kush & Egypt Ancient Civilizations Mr. Hollingsworth’s World History Tuesday – September 26, 2017

Alabama Course of Study Analyze characteristics of early civilizations in respect to technology, division of labor, government, calendar, and writings. Comparing significant features of civilizations that developed in the Tigris-Euphrates, Nile, Indus, and Huang He River valleys. Identifying on a map locations of cultural hearths of early civilizations.

Nubia Who were the first people to arrive in Nubia? The first people in Nubia were cattle herders, who grazed their herds on the savanna. Eventually villages developed. More powerful villages took over weaker ones, and the kingdom of Kerma was created.

Nubia Who did Kerma trade with? Kerma traded with the Egyptians, and Kerma became wealthy. Kerma had tombs like the Egyptian pharaohs. Egypt invaded Kerma and eventually defeated them. Under Egyptian rule, the people of Kerma adopted many of the Egyptian ways.

Nubia Before Egypt invaded, how did the people of Kerma help the Egytians? The people of Kerma traded with the Egyptians and served as warriors in the Egyptian armies. Nubians eventually broke away from Egypt and formed their own kingdom called Kush.

Nubia Kush conquered Egypt in 728 B.C. Later the Assyrians would drive the Kushites from Egypt, but the Kushites would learn how to work iron from them. The Kushites moved their capital from Napata to Meroe to get away from the Assyrians and closer to iron ore deposits.

Nubia Kush was built to look like Egypt, with pyramids and temples. Kush would be conquered and destroyed by the kingdom of Axum.
