Presentation transcript:

Photosynthesis

A plant cell captures energy in sunlight and uses it to make food. Photosynthesis: A plant cell captures energy in sunlight and uses it to make food.

Capturing the sun's energy occurs in the plant’s leaves. Photosynthesis Capturing the sun's energy occurs in the plant’s leaves. Chloroplasts contain green pigments called chlorophyll to capture the sun’s energy. Water and carbon dioxide combine chemically to form sugars and oxygen.

Cellular Respiration

Occurs in Mitochondria Respiration Occurs in Mitochondria Small molecules of glucose are broken down into even smaller molecules to release a large amount of energy.

Cellular Respiration: Cells combine sugar and oxygen to release energy from the sugar. The energy produced is used for cellular functions.
