Pittwater Camera Club - The Lightroom Sessions (5) Aims of Session 5 Q & A from session 4 and homework Exporting images Types of exports Saving export parameters as a pre-set Setting up an export pre-set for submitting images to PWCC comps Publish Services Printing images on a printer at home The print module – we’ll do everything but actually printing an image Easy triptych Contact sheets – printing to a file 4/04/2019 Pittwater Camera Club - The Lightroom Sessions (5)

Pittwater Camera Club - The Lightroom Sessions (5) Exporting Export is LR’s ‘save as’ It generates a new file for use outside LR Can export more than one file at a time File -> Export Brings up the export dialogue with the last used pre-set selected (if there was one) File -> Export with previous Uses the last used settings for a manual export i.e. does not apply if the last used was a pre- set File -> Export with pre-set Uses a previously saved group of settings File -> Export as Catalogue Creates a new catalogue file using the selected images and includes your original files, any previews, any collections they were in, the original file path, any keywords and metadata that are associated with them. Export some images 4/04/2019 Pittwater Camera Club - The Lightroom Sessions (5)

Pittwater Camera Club - The Lightroom Sessions (5) An export pre-set for submitting digital images the requirements are to create a jpeg file with Colour space = sRGB Maximum dimensions = width or horizontal (1920 pixels) x hight or vertical (1200 pixels) Maximum file size = 500kb The file must be named in the format ‘great_title_firstname_lastname.jpg’ Lightroom set up In the metadata panel give the image a title – all lower case using ‘_’ rather then spaces between words If you don’t want to use title use, for example, the “headline” attribute in the ITPC metadata fields – any unused editable field that is in the file naming editor works Create a file name template that is compliant with PWCC naming Create an export pre-set that meets the PWCC digital file requirements 4/04/2019 Pittwater Camera Club - The Lightroom Sessions (5)

Pittwater Camera Club - The Lightroom Sessions (5) The Print Module Single image on a page Contact sheets Picture packages – multiple copies of the same image – different sizes on a page Custom packages – multiple images – different sizes on a page Print to paper or file (jpeg) Image information can be added – EXIF, Title, watermarking etc. Use paper profiles or let the printer manage colour Set up templates so settings can be re-used that include paper sizes, printer setting, image settings and sizes etc. consistently 4/04/2019 Pittwater Camera Club - The Lightroom Sessions (5)

Pittwater Camera Club - The Lightroom Sessions (5) Wrap up Be consistent with image locations and naming Standardise on an import process that works for you Previews, file-rename, use a collection, apply metadata during import (keywords, copyright), apply develop settings? Develop a workflow that gets you working on the better images from a shoot quicker and enables you to find images later that may have been overlooked Ratings, workflow collections, keywording, colour labels, filters Use the Develop tools to their fullest and switch to an external editor (PS) when you have too rather than as a matter of course. Use the short cuts like pre-sets and profiles and AUTO Use the export pre-sets and print templates for consistency and ‘set and forget’ 4/04/2019 Pittwater Camera Club - The Lightroom Sessions (5)
