Third Grade News January Newsletter Other News Please remember to sign your child’s behavior sheet/ reading log each night. Students should be reading at least 20 minutes each night! Reading: All 3-5 students will be taking the middle of the year Benchmark on Monday, January 14. *Students will be completing a unit where they are studying characters across a series. We will continue this unit using A-Z Mystery Books. They will focus on how mystery stories follow a sequence of events and how mysteries reveal life lessons. Math: All 3-5 students will be taking the middle of the year Benchmark on Tuesday, January 15. *Students will begin a unit on reasoning with shapes and their attributes. They will investigate characteristics of and compose triangles and quadrilaterals (rhombuses, rectangles, squares, parallelograms, and trapezoids. Finally, students will communicate their reasoning by explaining their thinking. Writing: Students will begin a unit on reading and reflecting on poetry. Poetry uses language and craft to convey meaning. Social Studies/Science: Students will begin a unit on Ecosystems: Plants and Soil. We will focus on how plants survive in their environment.
