What is a Transition Word? A Transition Word is a word that can create a link between ideas that can help the reader understand the logic of the paper. -Next, Also, In Addition, Secondly, Thirdly, In the same way, By the same token, However, In other words, To clarify, To explain,

Examples: I love fruit. In Particular, I like bananas, pineapples, and berries. I am not going out tonight. Instead, I will stay home and watch a movie. We wanted to leave at 8:30. However, Mike arrived too late. I forgot that the cake was on the oven. As a consequence, it burned.

ACT Question: Which of the following alternatives to the underlined portion would NOT be acceptable? To start, I wasn’t on the kind of farm everyone imagines. A: First of all, B: To begin, C: For start, D: Firstly,

Answer: C Choices (A) (B) and (D) are acceptable substitutions to achieve the same effect. Choice (C) is unacceptable because the correct expression is For Starters not For start.
