Destination Success The Journey Starts First Stop Middle School

HELLO! I am Mrs. Hinson I am here to help you prepare your 5th grade defense portfolio. You can find me at mhinson@henry.k12.ga.us.

5th Grade Defense Portfolios Shows progress over time Highlights your academic and social/emotional learning Builds a picture of you as a student Shows that you are ready for middle school and beyond

“WHY” As part of personalized learning we all must take responsibility for our learning and reflect on our successes and struggles!

What will my portfolio contain? The portfolios will include the following artifacts About me as a learner (Slide 1) Student Agency Student reflects on his/her learning style, academic strengthens and challenges, SEL growth, honestly acknowledges areas that need further growth, and presents a plan to foster this growth. Use of 21st Century Skills (Slide 2) Student uses pictures, examples and other artifacts to show how well they use the soft skills of communication, collaboration, creativity and critical thinking.

What will my portfolio contain? Data across the 5th grade year (Slide 3) Learner Profile Student uses data from their data notebooks and HCS Learner Profile to support their growth across their 5th grade year. Mastery of the HCLTS (Slides 4 and 5) Could be extra slides if more subjects are chosen Student uses projects and other artifacts to support their mastery of at least 2 chosen areas of study (math, ELA, science or social studies)

What will my portfolio contain? Technology (Slide 6) Tech Enabled Learning How I used technology in my classes this year. What benefits have I seen from using technology to help me learn? Connecting to the real world (Slide 7) Authentic Learning How has what I have learned this year connected to real life? How will I be able to apply the skills I have learned in the future?

What will my portfolio contain? Final Thoughts (Slide 8) Summary other information presented This is “why” I should move on to middle school Thank you to those who have helped you in elementary school

A PICTURE IS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS Be sure to include pictures and graphics in your presentation! Make you slides more visually appealing with color, pictures and consistent font! Tell your story in graphics and words!
