A Claim can be… a judgment an inference or theory an interpretation of evidence a point of view supported by research, expert sources, evidence, reasoning, and personal testimony Claims are Specific Opinionated Debatable Defendable A claim should NOT Be a fact (not a statement of belief) Be a description Be an absolute statement Include everything the paper will say
