Athletic Eligibility Wade Lipscomb Athletic Director August 7, 2014

Several Factors That Affect Athletic Eligibility Enrollment Requirement Age Requirement Eight Semester Rule Academic Rule C2C Transfers Other Considerations Discuss how job goal from the job description is tied to every performance evaluation as a function of job execution

Enrollment Rule A student must be a regular enrolled student in a school where the student will participate. If a student is not enrolled in a school, he/she is not eligible to represent that school. A regular student is one who is enrolled at the school and taking six new units of work.

Age Requirement A student is ineligible to participate in high school interscholastic athletics if he/she reaches his/her 19th birthday prior to August 1 of the current school year. A student is ineligible to participate in middle school interscholastic athletics if he/she reaches his /her 15th birthday prior to August 1 of the current school year.

Eight Semester Rule A student may be eligible only eight consecutive semesters after entering the ninth grade. No student may participate in any one sport for more than six years after entering the seventh grade.

Academic Rule All first time 7th grade students are eligible. Students entering the 8th or 9th grades must have passed during the last two semesters, in attendance and summer school, at least five new subjects with a minimum composite numerical average of 70 in those five subjects and must have been promoted to the next grade.

Academic Rule Students entering the 10th, 11th and 12th grades must have passed during the last two semesters, in attendance and summer school, at least six new Carnegie units with a minimum composite numerical average of 70 in those six units. Four core courses must be included in those units passed and averaged.

Things that have to be input into C2C (AHSAA eligibility software) Birth Certificate – Each student-athlete must have on file a valid birth certificate. Physical Form – Each student-athlete must have a current physical form on file. A physical is valid for 1 calendar year. Sportsmanship Requirement – Each student-athlete must complete the “STAR Sportsmanship Course” one time and have a certificate of completion on file. AHSAA Release Form – In order for the state to calculate the academic eligibility of each student-athlete, the parent and student-athlete must sign a release form annually. Signed Concussion Form – Student-athlete and parent must sign this form that they have reviewed signs, symptoms or behaviors consistent with a concussion annually. Student in Good Standing Release Form

Transfer Rule A student that enrolls in one member school and later transfers to another member school shall not be eligible immediately. A member school is one that is a member of the AHSAA.

Transfer Rule Exceptions Parents move from one school zone to another school zone Student transfers under Majority to Minority A student is eligible at a new school if they complete highest grade taught at a school and have not graduated. After a student attends a school for one full calendar year then that student is eligible to represent that school. A student that transfers from any non-member school to a member school is eligible at the beginning of a new semester.

Other Considerations A student who is attending Pinnacle cannot participate in athletics at their home school. If a student is not eligible he/she can still work out with the team but cannot dress or participate in any games. A cheerleading squad is recognized as a support group for interscholastic teams within its school; therefore, cheerleaders do not fall under the eligibility rules that govern interscholastic athletics.
