The Temptation of Jesus Luke 4:1-13 The Temptation of Jesus

“If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.” Philippians 2:6-8 6 Who, being in very nature God,  did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; 7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death — even death on a cross!

The devil led him up to a high place and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world.  And he said to him, “I will give you all their authority and splendour; it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to.  If you worship me, it will all be yours.

The devil led him to Jerusalem and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down from here. For it is written: “He will command his angels concerning you     to guard you carefully; they will lift you up in their hands,     so that you will not strike your foot against a stone”

Some points to consider and reflect upon: Jesus denied his rights and privileges as the divine Son of God to live fully as man with all that entailed – knowing hunger, pain, hardship… Jesus never once sought to gain the passing glories of this world, but at all times his sole focus was the worship & service of the Father Jesus never used his power and authority for his own glory or gratification, but trusting in God’s word & promises, he sought to give all glory to the Father.
