Chapter 4- Unit 12 Presentation & Plans for Unit 13

Chapter 2 At the start of Unit 12 I had a few ideas of what I wanted to research and experiment. I have always been interested in history so I decided to stick with something that I knew I would like to research and something that interested me also.

Chapter 2 I decided to do my report on The Beatles but also I looked for sources that would give me context on what Liverpool as a city was like during the 60’s when The Beatles come on the scene which was of course a city in disrepute as the war near enough sent the whole city into poverty and depression. I tried to keep my report as relevant as possible to my experiments and also to my idea for my final major project as the research and experimenting will help when it comes to producing this work.

Chapter 3 For chapter three it was all about experimentation, I tired to make each experiment relevant so I decided to do one on art, one on framing in documentaries and the other on colour.

Chapter 3 The first experiment was on John Lennon's line art. I kept this experiment relevant to the report I done on The Beatles and I wanted to keep that ‘history’ trend going. I also thought it was a fun experiment to do as it allowed me to get creative with line drawing. By doing this experiment it taught me that there are so many different forms of art rather than just drawing someone but it also taught me that you are able to take inspiration from other peoples work and use it in your own.

Chapter 3 For the second experiment I experimented with colour and emotions. I put different colours over pictures from the war and asked my peers whether the colour changes the look and emotion of the image. The results I got from the experiment will certainly help me with my Unit 13 as I am going to use images from the war and use them over an interview. Depending on what pictures I am going to use I could add some colour to the images and ask whether this had any effect on my audience.

Chapter 3 For my final experiment I looked at framing in documentaries. Again I was focusing on emotion. I took screenshots from 3 different documentaries and analysed each one asking fellow peers to comment on them. From doing this research and experimenting with framing I found that the framing in an interview has to be perfect. You don’t necessarily want something in the background that can distract the viewer from what the interviewee is talking about. For my idea for my final piece of work is an interview so doing this experiment I was really able to take tips from it.

Both of the chapters above have set me up perfectly in terms of knowledge gained to help me peruse my idea for what I want to do for my FMP.
