PE and Sport Premium Funding Impact Report (2017-18) Gossops Green Primary School

What is the PE and Sports Premium funding? The PE and Sport Premium is designed to help primary schools improve the quality of our PE and sports activities that we offer our pupils; ‘ALL pupils leaving primary school physically literate and with the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy, active lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport.’ We receive the funding based on the numbers of pupils we have. It is based upon schools with seventeen or more eligible pupils. Schools receive £16,000 and then an additional £10 per pupil (previously this was £8,000 and £5). We must spend the funding to improve the quality of PE and sports activities on offer, but we are free to choose the best way of spending the money. DfE suggestions include: hire specialist PE teachers hire qualified sports coaches to work with teachers provide existing staff with teaching resources to help them teach PE and sport support and involve the least active children by running or extending school sports clubs and holiday clubs run sport competitions or increase pupils’ participation in locality school sports run sports activities with other schools

Aims for Sports Premium Funding at Gossops Green Primary 1. To increase participation in school sports clubs and participate in a wide range of locality sports competitions. 2. To encourage a more active, healthy lifestyle. 3. Increase the profile of PE and sport across the school and signpost pupils, including Excelling Learners, to local external clubs.

Funding Received (2017-2018) Funding Allocation: September 2017- August 2018 Initial Funding £16,000 Additional Funding (No. of Y1-Yr6 Pupils on January 2017 census) £4660 (466 x £10) Total Received £20,660 The initial, expected total was increased at the start of this academic year 7/12 of the funding was received on 1st November 2017 5/12 of the funding was/will be received on 1st May 2018

School Focus and Intended Impact on Pupils Actions Funding Allocation: Evidence and Impact Next Steps Trained Sports Coach to lead a range of different sports at different times of the day to engage a wide range of the school population Sports Coach leads ten different clubs Clubs offered take into account requests from School Council £10,122 All clubs are full and have a waiting list Clubs offered are different from last year. Offer another club to KS1, to reach as many children as possible. To offer opportunities for as many children as possible to compete in physical activities against other schools. Children selected for competitions if they regularly attend the club (rather than on talent) £710 Girls football team made it to the final of two competitions and narrowly came second on penalties. Boys team won the End of Year Cup PE Leaders’ QIP to share competition results

Increase the activities on offer Train further Play Leaders Increase amount of equipment available at break £200 A wider range of children engaged in different games on the playground Play Leaders to be trained to lead and run activities including manning the climbing frame every KS2 lunchtime £170 Decrease in arguments and behavioural incidents on the playground (see Reflection Room log) To increase pupil understanding of healthy lifestyle Healthy Schools Week. £750 Pupils more aware of healthy living – Pupil Perception Survey shows an increase in understanding Healthy Schools Week to be an annual event. Increase participation in Breakfast Club to encourage involvement in activities Employ additional adult to take children outside to undertake physical activity having eaten £940 45 pupils now attend Breakfast Club and engage in physical activities Introduce ‘Wake and Shake’ programme To offer a wide range of physically diverse activities to pupils. Pupil Premium pupils in Yr4 and Yr6 to be supported to attend residential trips where, they will be physically active for the majority of the day and experience a variety of OAA activities £2,910 All Pupil Premium pupils in Yr4 and Yr6 offered the opportunity to attend, funded by the school Continue to offer these subsidised places to Pupil Premium pupils.

New Sports Noticeboard to be updated weekly £245 Noticeboard celebrates success and clearly displays information about matches, clubs and results. Use the PE, Sport and Health Wheel to assess provision Competition results and success to be shared on schools social media site and weekly newsletter N/A All stakeholders are aware of the school’s sporting successes. Pupils to share success in weekly Celebration Assembly to inspire others Every Friday following a competition, the team are celebrated in assembly., Many children have had the opportunity to be publicly praised for their physical participation. Pupils with talent or interest to be directed to local sports clubs Pupils directed to local basketball, football, golf and gymnastic clubs. Sports Coach to research a wider range of different sports providers. 20 Yr5 pupils were taken to the London Para Athletics World Championships. £833 Pupils were motivated by seeing the impact of resilience and aspiration in world class sport.
