Finding a Balance of Power Kelly Grannan Maria Martin Cyndi Schmear

Energy Use Globally - Canada One of the worlds largest producers and exporters of energy US is Canada’s biggest customers Canada’s biggest source of energy consumption is oil, followed by natural gas In 2007 Canada produced 6.6 trillion cubic feet of natural gas – 2nd largest producer in western hemisphere

Energy Use Globally - Canada Integrated Community Energy Solutions Proveds a more effective way to manage energy to the benefit of an entire community Solutions they offer are: heating buildings and homes with waste from industry, situating buildings in a way to use solar energy, promotes walking & bike riding Eco-energy retrofit-homes program – resulting in average heating bill savings of about $700/year

Energy Use Globally - Japan In 1973 oil resource dependency was as high as 805 Realized how fragile they were and began efforts to change structures Oil dependency has declined to 48% Curbing their consumption they have been successfully work as an energy conservation oriented society

Change 5 Light Bulbs 5-60W light bulbs with 18W fluorescent saves the individual $40.00 a year in electric bills It avoids 680 lbs of CO2 expelled into the atmosphere. If 157,000 people made the change, $7.4 million per year would be saved as well as 131.8 million lbs of CO2 would not be expelled into the atmosphere

Pros of using 18W fluorescent bulbs they use 75% less energy they produce 75% less heat they last 5,000 to 10,000 hours versus the 1,000 hours from a regular light bulb visit focusonenergy.com/cflrecycling  for a list of places to recycle your light bulbs This information comes from the Database of State Incentives for Renewable and Efficiency (DSIRE)

New Energy Policies In June the American Clean Energy Leadership Act is up for a vote Goal is that by 2021 consumption of renewable energy to be at 15% If enacted the emission eliminated would compare with taking 45.3 million cars off the roads www.ucsusa.org
