IEEE Information Theory Society Diversity and Inclusion Committee Elza Erkip February 2019, BoG Meeting

Background Formed in February 2018 as ad-hoc. Standing committee approved in October 2018. Members Stark Draper Elza Erkip (chair) Sig Jaggi Tara Javidi Muriel Medard Emanuele Viterbo

ISIT 2019 Event Diversity and Inclusion event planned for ISIT 2019. Type of event (small, large, outside speakers etc) depends on the amount of funding from ITSoc: Cost of security, food. Ideas for the event: Invite an outside speaker. Internal speakers/panel. Q&A session (as in ISIT 2018). Suggestions welcome.

ITSoc Conference Code of Conduct Approved in October 2018 BoG meeting. Available at itsoc.org All sponsored conferences, workshops and schools to include on their websites, disseminate to registrants. Vijay Kumar is working with ISIT 2019 organizers to make sure people acknowledge the conference code at the time of registration. Going forward: Ensure all ITSoc conferences do this.

Reporting Mechanisms October 2018 BoG meeting: Long discussion on reporting conference code violations. Who to report to? What to do after reporting? November 2018: My presentation at the IEEE TAB Meeting Presidents’ Forum. IEEE reporting mechanisms on member conduct violations, with a particular emphasis on sexual harassment.
