What books make up the Old Testament

Old and New Testament When Christians refer to the Old Testament they are speaking of the first part of the Bible The New Testament tells of the ministry of Jesus Christ Today we often refer to the Hebrew Scriptures and the Christian Scriptures They are basically the same as the Old and New Testament, but take into account the Jewish faith

The books Catholics include 46 books in the Old Testament; 27 in the new Testament This makes up the canon of Scripture; the accepted list of books

The Books Early Christians and Jews differed on the Books to be included Catholics include 7 books (1, 2 Macabees, Judith, Tobit, Baruch, Sirach, Wisdom) not recognized by Jews as part of the canon of scripture These were written after 300 bce in Greek Called deutercanonical; second canon

The Books During the Reformation, Martin Luther decided that only those books recognized in the Hebrew Bible should be included Most protestant bibles do not include these books – but often include them in a section called the apocrypha ; which means “hidden”

When was it written? The Hebrew Scriptures were written between 1000 BCE and 150 BCE They were written in the Hebrew language
