Language Arts BELL WORK 8/14 (top of I.N. page 10) What should every good story have? - at least 3 sentences

Narrative Text What’s Your Story? Copying permitted

Story = Narrative Copying permitted

Narratives Fiction Nonfiction Copying permitted

What makes a narrative a narrative? Sequence - order Characters - people Conflict - problem Resolution - solution Copying permitted

Sequence or Order Narratives tend to follow a chronological pattern—from beginning to end. Narratives, however, do not tell everything. Copying permitted

Be Selective Don’t tell everything. Don’t tell about your whole life with your aunt. Tell about the time she took you to shop for a new pair of shoes for your first day of school. Copying permitted

Invitation to Read: What Does the Writer Focus on? “I never thought I was a good runner, until the day in gym class when I won the mile race. The course was marked with colorful flags, and the sight of the flags seemed to fire me up…” (Write Source Gr. 5, page 84) Copying permitted

Invitation to Write Make a list. Think about conflicts you’ve had —getting into trouble, arguing, fighting, problems, etc. Copying permitted

Sensory Details Take your topic and use these sentence stems to think more about your topic. I see… I hear… I smell… I feel… I taste… Copying permitted
