Skills Major Programs for grade 11 and 12. These sector-related programs are available to students in grade 9 and 10 in some schools that offer Specialist High Skills Major Programs for grade 11 and 12. Explore High Skills is a specialized program that allows students to focus their learning in an area of interest. 4:12-15

What are the boundaries for Explore High Skills sectors? To find the Explore High Skills program in your boundary, enter your home address in the “Find Your School” tool on www.peelschools.org

What about programs offered outside school boundary? There are a maximum of 10 spots available in the Explore High Skills program at each school for students who live outside of their neighbourhood school boundary Students who live and apply within their neighbourhood school boundary will be offered spots first If there is a spot available after offers have been made to students who live within the boundary, then offers will be made to students living outside the boundary Busing will not be provided

Explore High Skills Program Content Curriculum Connections Activities allow students to connect their classroom learning to their pathway plans, and their future workplace. Development of Learning Skills Skill development helps students prepare for the workplace (responsibility, organization, independent work, collaboration, initiative, and self-regulation). Experiential Learning Activities and Certifications Sector-related community involvement, experiential learning, and certifications.

1. Focused Learning Activities classroom activities in grade 9 and in grade 10 allow students to make connections between their classroom learning and their pathway plans topics related to the sector 6 hours in length

2. Community Involvement Students will complete a minimum of 20 hours of approved sector-related community involvement by the end of grade 10.

3. Learning Skills Students will develop selected learning skills required in the sector: responsibility, organization, independent work, collaboration, initiative, and self-regulation.

4. Certification Students earn one sector-recognized certification/training program in grade 9 or 10.

5. Experiential Learning Activity Students will participate in one sector-related experiential learning activity to explore learning and working in the sector.

6. Individual Pathway Plan Students will continue their Individual Pathway Plan (IPP) using myBlueprint including: surveys resume builder post-secondary planner portfolio and reflections occupation planner goal-setting course selection

Can I apply to both the EHS program and RLCP? Yes. Grade 8 students can submit applications for both the Explore High Skills program and Regional Learning Choices Program. However, a student can only accept one offer. All other applications/offers will automatically be unavailable, once one offer has been accepted. Parent(s)/guardian(s) will need to reply to the acceptance email to confirm the offer. Once the offer is accepted, this is irreversible by the parent.

Applications All grade 8 students can submit applications for up to three Explore High Skills programs, including those offered at locations other than their neighbourhood school. Opens: Nov. 9, 2016 Closes: Nov. 25, 2016 at 4 p.m. Offers: Feb. 15, 16, & 17, 2017 Waitlist: Feb. 21, 2017 To apply, visit www.peelschools.org/ExploreHighSkills
