Final Report Outline Title Page Letter of Transmittal Table of Contents Executive Summary Introduction (Reference to Appendix D & E) Process Description (Includes PFD, Stream and Equipment Tables) Process Design and Simulation (Reference to Appendix A) Capital Costs (Reference to Appendix B) Manufacturing Costs (Reference to Appendix C) Profitability Analysis Sensitivity Analysis Process Control with Process Instrumentation Diagram Environmental Compliance Plant Safety Appendices All Equipment Design Methods, Calculations and Assumptions Sample Calculations for Capital Cost Sample Calculations for Manufacturing Cost Literature Review Project Timeline

General Guidelines Use an appropriate binder for report. Use an appropriate amount of significant figures in tables. Refer to Chapter 27 (CD) in the Turton text on written communications, report guidelines and examples of good vs. bad reports.

Executive Summary This should be no more than 1 or 2 paragraphs stating what project is including the novelty or new technology employed. Also include production rate, where it is sited and the bottom line results on profitability. The total capital and manufacturing costs should also be given along with a conclusion to the variables found most sensitive to profitability.

Introduction Introduction should contain what project is, novelty or new technology employed, the production rate, where plant is sited and motivation for building plant. Introduction should contain where possible marketing information and information on where globally product is manufactured and product / bi-product uses. Literature review is briefly discussed and a reference is made to Appendix D. References should go throughout report as appropriate using APA style and can be used more than once within the text.

Process Description Include PFD, stream and equipment tables all referenced in report text with appropriate figure and table captions. PFD, Stream Tables and Equipment Tables should be referenced in the first paragraph and put right behind the description in the report with Captions and Figure / Table numbers included. Include the reactions and catalyst info within your discussion.

Process Design and Simulation This is a summary for the reader to know how the plant equipment was designed. Go through how each type of equipment was designed and any assumptions made in the design process. Discuss the simulator package used and any assumptions you needed to make it work. Reference Appendix A where the design for every piece of equipment and the method used to design, specific design calculations and any assumptions for the design are clearly outlined. Any detailed design calculations required outside of the simulator should be shown in the Appendix A.

Capital Costs Explanation of the sources and methodology used and discussion of other methods used to evaluate costs. Any detailed descriptions should go in Appendix B and not in main text. Summary Tables for equipment cost broken down by type of equipment. Reference accompanying cost spreadsheet and include in Appendix B a snapshot of the spreadsheet calculations. Include a pie chart of equipment breakdown by cost Calculate a cost / mass of product produced

Manufacturing Costs Explanation of the sources and methodology used and discussion of other methods used to evaluate costs. Be sure to reference and include sources for all 2015 manufacturing costs. Include referenced calculations in Appendix C where appropriate. Provide a Summary Table for manufacturing costs. Reference accompanying cost spreadsheet and include in Appendix C a snapshot of the spreadsheet calculations. Include a pie chart of equipment breakdown by category Calculate a cost / mass of product produced

Profitability and Sensitivity Analysis Explanation of the methodology used and assumptions made. Give a cumulative cash flow diagram. Reference accompanying cost spreadsheet which includes profitability calculations. Summarize Sensitivity analysis in a Table Draw conclusions from your sensitivity analysis and present them in your discussion.

Safety & Environmental Environmental section should describe waste and potential discharges and appropriate environmental regulations governing them and methods used to prevent environmental impact. Safety section should discuss potential hazards within the plant and what precautions are taken to prevent them. Do not include MSDS

Process Control This section can be brief but a general description of your control philosophy in terms of what is important to control and how it is implemented. This section should include a PID (Process Instrumentation Diagram) Any advanced controls used should be discussed and reflected on your PID

Oral Presentation Guidelines Refer to Sections 27.3 and 27.4 (CD) in the Turton text on oral communications. Make sure all slides are spell checked and readable. Communicate message in a concise manner with graphics and limited use of written words. Dress appropriately and project your voice. Do not read from note cards. You should know your subject.
