Division of Europe and military alliances By: Laryssa, Sadie and Cayden

Background information Western countries wanted to stop communist expansion Joined alliances to protect themselves from any future aggression NATO (formed in 1949) is an alliance between U.S., Canada, Turkey and 25 European counties.  They work by pledging every member to defend any member that is being attacked Soviet Union has a very strong military in Europe The Soviet Union responded to NATO by creating a Warsaw pact after World War II.
