Term 3: All around the world! Around the world in 80 days. SCIENCE AND COMPUTING HUMANITIES (History, Geography, RE, MFL) PE AND PSHE Science - Weather: How can we measure the weather, wind and temperature? How does the weather and seasons change across the world? Can we create our own weather report? Science - Animals: What animals prefer cool/hot climates? What are there habitats like? Computing: Beebots! How do we program Beebots? How can we add/edit/remove instructions? Can we program Beebots to follow maps? Geography: Where is Britain on the world map? Can we use a world map to locate different countries? How does the weather/climate change? Where is the Equator? What is life like in different countries? What is their capital/flag/language etc? History: Who are the Wright brothers and Amelia Earhart? What did they accomplish? How has travel changed over the years? RE: How can we care for others around the world? What celebrations/religious festivals happen around the world? PE - Dance: How does dance and music change throughout the world? Can we perform traditional dances and movements from different countries? Can we respond to a variety of music? Can we move in different ways? Can we sequence movements together? Can we create and perform our own dance? How can we improve our performance? PE - Tag Rugby: What are the rules of tag rugby? How can we catch and throw a ball with control? How can we work effectively as a team? PSHE – Jigsaw: Dreams and goals Pick a country and find out what animals live there! Draw pictures or write a list. Ask an adult to help you find out what the weather is like in different countries. Is it hotter/colder than in England? Have a look at an Atlas/globe at home. What countries can you spot? What are they near/like? Carry out some research about that country. Create your own dance routine by yourself or with a friend/group. Can you perform some traditional dance styles from around the world? Year 1 Term 3 Term 3: All around the world! Around the world in 80 days. English MATHS We will be exploring lots of different types of writing inspired by travel including: Letters and postcards Story telling Poetry Using captions and labels Character profiles Expressing opinions Instructions Speech Fractions – Directions: What is a half/quarter? How many parts? Can we find a half/quarter of a shape, amount or object? What is a double? Can we make ¼, ½, ¾ and whole turns? Which way is left/right? anti/clockwise? Can we give and follow accurate instructions? How can we get to ____? Measure: How do we measure weight, volume and length? What equipment could we use? units? CREATIVE DEVELOPMENT (Art, Music, Design technology) DT - Exploring food from different countries What is food like in____? Can we follow a recipe? What equipment/ingredients will we need? Music: What is music like in_____? What instruments do they use? Art - Exploring art from around the world! Read at least three times a week to earn a gold coin for the reading rainbow! Parents, please use the reading bookmark attached to their reading record to ask your child questions to develop their comprehension. Learn your left/right and anti/clockwise. Set up an obstacle course and give an adult directions to complete it. Can you follow an adult’s directions? Try some cooking at home! Perhaps explore some food from a different country.
