The ‘Mumsnet’ test… How do we settle children if they get lost or seem upset? What is the child to teacher ratio? Does the school provide lunch (and what’s it like?) Are there morning and after school clubs? Is there an open door policy? What is our take on bullying? How long have the staff been working here? How do we support High or Low Achievers?

The ‘Mumsnet’ test… How do we settle children if they get lost or seem upset? We have a dedicated team of teachers, TA s and support staff to meet and greet children. Our Head teacher is at the door everyday, to make sure that all children come into the school happy and safely. At playtime, staff are visible and we have designated ‘buddy’ areas within the playground. What is the child to teacher ratio? This differs from year group, but on average it is 1:8 in EYFS 1:13 in KS1 and 1:17 in KS2

The ‘Mumsnet’ test… Does the school provide lunch (and what’s it like?) We receive lunch from William Ramsey school. The lunches are wholesome and menus can be viewed online The cost of lunches is £2.10 per day and from September 2018, payment can be made online. Are there morning and after school clubs? Every morning, children are warmly welcomed into our Breakfast Club (about 20% of our school) from all year groups. A new list of after school and in school clubs will be made available in September 2018.

The ‘Mumsnet’ test… Is there an open door policy? Our Headteacher is available to speak to parents or gather comments/concerns before and after school every day. Parents are welcomed into school to support learning and clubs through request, and all teachers are available to speak to parents after school. What is our take on bullying? In every day society, there are friendship conflicts. Our policy is to equip our children with the skills of dealing with these conflicts through role modelling situations and de-escalation ‘chats’. Where children need additional support, Nurture groups are set up to support ‘the right choices’ when our feelings become too much. Being able to deal with difficult situations is a life skill, which we proactively address.

The ‘Mumsnet’ test… How long have the staff been working here? There has been a rotation of staff in recent years, including a new Head teacher in July 2018. Through ongoing promotion or tragic family incidents, there have been occurances whereby support or supply staff have been sourced. As much as possible, friendly and known adults are used in the classrooms to minimalise any anxious relationship issues. How do we support High or Low Achievers? We have a range of supportive interventions to extend the learning needs of all children. Our Talk4Writing, reading strategy and Maths programmes aims to challenge every child. We have a designated team of support staff who carry out interventions of need for our lower achievers. Progress is reviewed every 6 wks, and class teachers receive regular targets from Senior Staff.
