Quick Challenge Luke 10: 23-24 And he turned him unto his disciples, and said privately, Blessed are the eyes which see the things that ye see; For I tell you, that many prophets and kings have desired to see those things which ye see and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear and have not heard them. What you think?

More C.S. Lewis Mere Christianity (New York: Simon and Schuster, 1996 [first published 1943]) Then comes the real shock. Among these Jews there suddenly turns up a man who goes about talking as if He was God. He claims to forgive sins. He says He has always existed. He said He is coming to judge the world at the end of time. Now let us get this clear. Among Pantheists, like the Indians, anyone might say that he was a part of God, or one with God: there would be nothing very odd about it. But this man, since He was a Jew, could not mean that kind of God. God in their language, meant that Being outside the world Who had made it and was infinitely different from anything else. And when you have grasped that, you will see that what this man said was, quite simple, the most shocking thing that has ever been uttered by human lips.

Now one by our friend Sir Elton John "I think Jesus was a compassionate, super-intelligent gay man who understood human problems. On the cross, he forgave the people who crucified him. Jesus wanted us to be loving and forgiving. I don't know what makes people so cruel. Try being a gay woman in the Middle East -- you're as good as dead," John tells PARADE.

Quotes on Jesus I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: 'I'm ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don't accept His claim to be God.' That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic -- on the level with the man who says he is a poached egg -- or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to. – Mere Christianity, pages 40-41, CS Lewis

Interesting commentary by Tolkien All the other myths of the world are a mixture of truth and error - truth because they are written by those made by and for God - error because written by those alienated by God. But the Bible is the one true myth. It is a true accounting of truth, while everything else we do is mimicking. J. R. R. Tolkien

Fully man and God In the beginning God created us in his own image and ever since then we have been trying to return the favor. Jesus was fully man and yet he remained perfect, why ? well duh he was God, well yeah he had the miraculous birth he was not born with original sin but he still lived fully as a man because he had something similar to all of us, CHOICES. For example The Devil tempted him, the Pharisees tried to trick and discredit him, and the night before his crucifixion he was asking God to remove this burden from him. He had choices and he made all the right one because, sure he was God but he remained close with the father understood his will and meshed his life with the will of the Father. Jesus suffered, he hungered, he thirst, and was tired. Jesus got angry, frustrated, laughed, enjoyed life, just like all of us but he made all the right choices.

Jesus Disciples Video From last week, Jesus was different from other Rabbi because he chose his disciples and did not wait to be asked. He did not choose the cream of the crop, people who have study and trained all their lives in the synagogue but average people. He chose 12 to be his core group of followers but many more at least 70 more went out and did the work Jesus sent them to do

Jesus' Enemies Pharisees Sadducees Herodians Priests Scribes Roman leaders What is in common? Heads of Israel all political

Sadducees 1. They were extremely self-sufficient to the point of denying God's involvement in everyday life. 2. They denied any resurrection of the dead (Matthew 22:23; Mark 12:18-27; Acts 23:8). 3. They denied any afterlife, holding that the soul perished at death, and therefore denying any penalty or reward after the earthly life. 4. They denied the existence of a spiritual world, i.e., angels and demons (Acts 23:8). Majority leaders of the Sanhedrian

Pharisees 1. They believed that God controlled all things, yet decisions made by individuals also contributed to the course of a person's life. 2. They believed in the resurrection of the dead (Acts 23:6). 3. They believed in an afterlife, with appropriate reward and punishment on an individual basis. 4. They believed in the existence of angels and demons (Acts 23:8). Most people liked them, minority group Sanhedrian

Roman Leaders Tiberius Cesar Pontius Pilate Governor of Judea Herod Tetrarch of Galilee- beheads John the Baptist and is “interested” in meeting Jesus

His Teachings Video What was Jesus most famous teachings? Luke 6:12-49

His Early message Jesus spent a lot of time trying to break down images or preset notions of the way things ought to be and replaced them with truths that could change your life. Unlike most Rabbi Jesus taught The will of the Father and not the traditions of the fathers.

How did people respond They rejected him at Nazareth The Jews constantly tried to stone him Fear consumed the people of Gadarenees The people argued with him BUT MANY ACCEPTED IT, words like Astonished and Amaze are comon
