Strategies for Adolescence How to deal with Puberty Strategies for Adolescence

Think back What we have learnt so far: Physical Changes- what happen to your body Emotional Changes- what happen with your feeling Social Changes- how is your relationship with others How Puberty affect people in different way What is it all about? Why do we have to learn this?

Think about this We have to learn about puberty because: We have to know what happen to ourselves We must build our physical, mental, social and spiritual health in balance. We should create good relationships with families, friends, and communities. We will know what it means to be human. We are sure with our life choices. Therefore we have to prepare ourselves to get through this stage successfully. But, how?

Things you need to consider It is the most important part of the unit where you can decide what you will do in the future regarding with this puberty. There are some aspects that you need to consider when you decide your life choice. These will help you to create your own strategies to deal with some puberty problem you may face in near future.

What you eat is what you are Healthy Diet What do you think about this statement? What you eat is what you are Healthy food, junk food, organic, what suit you? Think about how you usually eat and count how much nutrition that you gain each day in order to keep your physical healthy. Remember that your body and mind are connected , so when your body is healthy you will have great feeling too. And your feeling affect your relationship with others. Create a balance and healthy diet for your breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Leisure Time 1/3 of your time in a day is your free time. How do you usually spend it? Hobbies, watching TV, reading, exercise, or what? It is important to have leisure time but we have to choose appropriate activities to do. What you do in your leisure time really affect your personal life choice. Some of them may be positive and negative effects. List some activities that will give positive and negative effects in a T-chart

Sports To keep your body and mind healthy and you need to do regular sport activities. What is your favorite sport? Soccer, volleyball, basket, swimming, golf, etc you need various kind of sports to improve stamina and also flexibility. When you do active sport properly, you will grow normally and of course, have better puberty experiences. Describe the use of sports to our body system (brain, heart, muscle, lungs, etc)

Personal Hygiene When you keep your body clean, you will gain more physical and mental health. Besides, you will be accepted by others, right. How you keep your body clean? Change clothes, socks, underwear, wash your hair, face, taking a bath regularly using proper equipments, etc How about you? Measure yourself, what you need to do to have better personal hygiene?

Life style Your choices including the clothes you wear – depend on situation the words you speak – appropriate language the things you consume – things you need to avoid anything you do –shopping, hang out, community will affect your way to get through this adolescent time. Therefore you must choose positive lifestyle in order to better life in the future. How is your life style? Do you think you choose appropriate life style, in what way?

parents Parents and other family member is your best resource and you should have a close relationship with them. Because at last, they are the ones who really cares about you. What do you need to build to have good relationship with them? Trust, caring, open-communication, responsibility. How is your relationship with your parents? Why and how do you make it better?

friends There are some kinds of friends, they can be positive or negative: Groups –clique, bands, gang, etc Community - same interests, hobbies, purposeful Best Friends – open-communication Boy/ girl friend– for positive motivation and encouragement. Other??? Along the way you will meet different people with different characteristic, and each of them will give you different experience of puberty. You need to choose which one appropriate for you. How is a good friend according to you? How they can help you to get through this stage successfully?

Other? Is there any other aspect that we should consider in dealing with puberty.

It’s all about responsibility At the end, you are the one who is responsible for your own life. It means you decide how your future will be. Therefore you need to make best choices for your life in order to have a better life in the future. Remember, you still need to be responsible with any of your life choices. How is your responsibility?

Your turn Develop your own strategies and based on your understanding so far. It can be in forms of poster, brochure or top five list paper. You will get succeed if you: Use the knowledge you have and transfer it with your own words. List each strategy with supporting details about how it can help you to deal with puberty. Use attractive media (MS Publishers), you should edit the template/example provided to make your own.
