Binomial Nomenclature (write these notes in your journals on page 7) The scientific name of an animal is made up of two parts. The Genus name and the Species name This 2 part name is called binomial nomenclature Rules: The entire name must be written in italics The genus name is always written first and is ALWAYS capitalized  The species name is never capitalized
