TAKE-OFF WHERE IS OUR PILOT THIS WEEK? TITLE GOES HERE Lesson 2A: “While the Pilot Is AwayPlan Your Trip!”

IN-CLASS ACTIVITY 1 CRUISE –TRACKING OUR PILOT’S JOURNEY PILOT TRACKING SHEET – WEEK TWO Let’s take a look at how many miles our Pilot has flown so far! For each leg, use the City-to-City Mileage Chart to calculate how many miles there are between the departure city and the arrival city. Use the 3-Letter City Code Chart to look up the name of each city. Complete the Pilot Tracking Worksheet. Calculate how many miles our Pilot flew this week and add that to the miles flown last week. Answer the question: Which is our Pilot’s favorite overnight city? If there is time, we can track our Pilot’s flights on www.flightaware.com. Lesson 2A: “While the Pilot Is AwayPlan Your Trip!”

IN-CLASS ACTIVITY 2 CRUISE – A PASSPORT TO TRAVEL When visiting a new city for the first time, it is a good idea to get some information about the city before you go. Let’s take a look at one way to get information about a new city. Today you will be working as a team of travel agents. Together you will be creating a travel brochure for your assigned city! A travel brochure is a great way to learn fun facts about a city. Make sure your travel brochure includes: Why the city is appealing for a tourist The 3-Letter City Code, the city name, state, and state capital The time zone for that city Top attractions, interesting landmarks or museums in the city Recreation, sporting, or other activities to do in the city Foods the city is known for (seafood, Cajun, Mexican, Italian, etc.) Any significant topographical features (rivers, mountains, etc.) The city’s typical weather Working in tourism is another career opportunity! LANDING Congratulations! Today you worked as a team, pretending to be travel agents to create an exciting travel brochure. You used math and geography to track our Pilot’s journey. If there is time, our Pilot will ask what you learned while away. Next time our Pilot visits, you will learn about how science applies to aviation in Lesson 3: What Is Up…With Aviation Science?
