The Outsiders – Character Trait Activity Name: Character Trait & 3 Quotes to Support Directions: Choose a character from The Outsiders and choose one adjective to describe your character. The adjective must describe the character’s personality trait and NOT a physical trait. Next, find three quotes to support that character trait. Quotes must be cited correctly, using the author’s last name and page number. Quotes are not limited to dialogue. Also, do not limit yourself to one or two chapters in the book, all three quotes should come from a wide page range. Character Name: ______________________________________________________________ Adjective: ______________________________ 3 Quotes to Support the Character Trait (must be cited correctly): 1. 2. 3.

The Outsiders – Character Trait Activity Name: Acrostic Poem About Character Directions: Write an acrostic poem that describes and represents your character. In order to do so, begin by writing the name of your character vertically. Once you have written the character’s name vertically, write a short poem that describes or represents information about your character. However, to so, you must use the letters of the character’s name to begin each different line. The acrostic poem should demonstrate depth of understanding, rather than relying on physical attributes. Character Name: ______________________________________________________________

The Outsiders – Character Trait Activity Name: Similes & Metaphors Directions: Figurative language can be a very powerful tool. Come up with two similes and two metaphors, of your own, for a character of your choosing. Each of the similes and metaphors should focus on a different attribute of the character, and at least two of the creations must be non-physical descriptions that you generate. For example, you could create a simile or metaphor to describe a character’s intelligence, friendliness, or how he/she is judgemental. Your smiles and metaphors will be graded upon creativity as well as depth of thought. Simile – a comparison of two unlike things using the words like or as Metaphor – a comparison of two unlike things by saying one thing is a dissimilar object or thing Character Name: ______________________________________________________________ Metaphors: 1. 2. Similes:

The Outsiders – Character Trait Activity Name: The Most Important Actions/Events & Why Directions: Think about all the important events that have taken place so far in the novel. During which of those event did your character play a part? Choose the three most important events, or actions your character performed, and THROUGHLY explain the importance of each event. Doing so should require at least two reasons why each event is so significant. Character Name: ______________________________________________________________ Event 1 (with 2 reasons WHY it is so significant): Event 2 (with 2 reasons WHY it is so significant): Event 3 (with 2 reasons WHY it is so significant):
