Warm-Up 11/16/15 What do you think… A. What organelle completes Photosynthesis? B. Is it in plant or animal cells or BOTH? A. What organelle completes Cellular Respiration? 3) What does photosynthesis make? (Glucose or Energy) What does Cellular Respiration make? (Glucose or Energy)

Transition… We have focused on cells- what they look like, how their organelles function, and how they divide Now I would like to discuss how these cells cycle energy to keep organisms alive

Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration 11/16/15 and 11/17/15 Pg. 47 Objective: I will be able to describe the processes of photosynthesis and cellular respiration as evidenced by creating a children’s book. Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration 11/16/15 and 11/17/15 Pg. 47

Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration Both are processes that happen inside cells Scientists use chemical equations to represent what happens There are reactants There are products

Reactants and Products Reactant- starting materials, what is needed in the beginning of a process Product- ending materials, what is made because of the process Ex:

Photosynthesis Organelle: Chloroplast (ONLY IN PLANTS) Starts with (reactants): carbon dioxide, water, sunlight energy Ends with (products): sugar (glucose) and oxygen Chemical Equation: 6C02 + 6H20 → C6H12O6 + 6O2 Key concept: Photosynthesis is a process where chloroplasts make sugars that store chemical energy

Photosynthesis Rap! http://www.schooltube.com/video/dc732e59026d90ab949d/

Cellular Respiration Organelle: Mitochondiria (IN ALL CELLS) Starts with (Reactants): oxygen and sugar (glucose) Ends with (products): carbon dioxide, water, and ENERGY (ATP) Chemical Equation: C6H12O6 + 6O2 → 6 CO2 + 6H2O + ENERGY KEY CONCEPT: Cellular Respiration is a process where mitochondria make ENERGY (ATP)

Discussion Is there anything you notice about photosynthesis and cellular respiration together?

Lets turn to the Left hand Pg… Label and color the diagram of photosynthesis and cellular respiration Fill in the compare and contrast matrix

Have the book completed for me to grade next class Children’s Book You will individually make a children’s book to explain the following: Photosynthesis What is it, where is happens, what is needed (reactants) and made (products) Cellular Respiration What it is, where is happens, what is needed (reactants) and made (products) Show how the 2 cycles are related to each other in your book Think of a story, don’t just write facts. Be creative, but keep it simple!! Add color. You may use an iPad app as well Have the book completed for me to grade next class

Exit Slip *Individual work, turn in to green bin* A. What organelle completes Photosynthesis? B. Is it in plant or animal cells or BOTH? A. What organelle completes Cellular Respiration? 3) What does photosynthesis make? (Glucose or Energy) What does Cellular Respiration make? (Glucose or Energy)
