Raging Rivers and Changing Coastlines Maths Place Value: numbers to ten million, compare and order any number, round any numbers, negative numbers. The four number operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division: adding and subtracting whole numbers, long division, short division, common factors and multiples, prime numbers, square and cube numbers, mental calculations and estimation. English Text Focus: Short stories and journalism. Spelling focus: synonyms, homophones and hyphens Grammar focus: simple, compound and complex sentences, subordinating and coordinating conjunctions, fronted sentences using adverbials (time, manner), subordinating conjunctions, extended –ing openers, relative clauses , embedded clauses, brackets, dashes, apostrophes, inverted commas, basic word groups (types of noun, pronouns, prepositions, determiners, modal verbs etc.), semi colons – complicated lists and linking 2 related clauses, colons for explanations. Reading comprehension focus: making inferences and using the text to support your answer.
