The Verb Can Example Example The modal verb can has the same form in all persons both in the singular and plural. Example I can swim. / We can swim. / He can swim. / They can swim. We use can to express ability, and to express lack of ability we use can't Example Ahmed can play tennis, but he can't draw. To ask you say: "Can you play football?" To answer you say: Yes, I can. / No, I can’t. Can ≠ Can't.
