Unit 1 Governing the People L2 Government for the People

All communities have a government. A government is a group of citizens that runs community.

A government: 1. Tries to solve problems by giving different solutions and trying to find the best. 2. It makes laws to keep the citizens safe. 3. It makes sure that people follow the laws and get along.

When people do not agree, a court could be held. A court may decide how everyone can be treated fairly. The person in charge o a court is a judge. A judge makes sure that the court protects the rights of all citizens.

Government Services A government service is something that the government provides for all the citizens. Government Services include: roads and bridges parks

Police Station Fire Station School Hospital

All these services help to keep citizens safe All these services help to keep citizens safe. The government services cost money. How does the government get the money to provide these services? Citizens pay for these services with taxes. A tax is money people pay to the government.
